Nintendo rivals Sony and Microsoft with its Nintendo Switch . The Hyprid console, which was released in spring 2017, is selling quite successfully, according to Nintendo. Most recently, the publication of “ Pokemon – lets Go ” resulted in another increase in sales worldwide. The Nintendo console was also one of the best sellers on Black Friday 2018 and should also be under many Christmas trees at Christmas. The traditional Japanese manufacturer impresses with an innovative concept: They pick up the players with an exciting mix of handheld and stationary console, which guarantees gaming fun both on the go and at home. On top of that there are also exclusive games such as “Zelda – Breath of the Wild“And” Super Mario Odyssey “. So the Switch has a lot to offer. The editors have collected various tips and tricks for you, with which you can really exhaust the Nintendo console.
Nintendo Switch: Use multiple saved games
There are some Switch games where you simply create multiple save games. But with titles like “Pokemon – lets Go” and “Zelda – Breath of the Wild” you are only allowed to have exactly one score. With a trick it is still possible to start a new game without losing the old save game. Because, unlike in 3DS times, you create additional user accounts on the same device on the switch. This also makes the Switch easy to share with family members and friends. To create additional users, open the system settings. Under the menu item “User”, go to “Add new user”. The Switch will then automatically ask which user you want to continue with when you start an application or game.
Convenient: Multiple users mean multiple games at the same time, even if the game only allows one.
Quick menu: everything important at a glance
Would you like to switch to airplane mode quickly or tweak the brightness? No problem, you don’t need to go to the system settings on the start screen. If you press and hold the home button for a few seconds, the quick menu will appear. There you can quickly switch the switch to standby mode, change brightness and volume and switch to flight mode. The menu can be shown at any time, including while playing. You can also see directly what time it is, how much power the battery still has, the WiFi signal strength and which controller you are currently using to control the switch.
Tasks such as how quickly you adjust the brightness or volume can be done using the quick menu.
Free up and expand memory
At 32 gigabytes, the switch’s internal memory is not exactly generous. Only a few games from the Nintendo eShop fit on it. Saved data from games and recordings take up more space. After all, downloaded games can be archived, i.e. deleted. The score is not lost. Good: The switch can be easily expanded with a microSD card. However, it is not possible to move installed games. The only thing that helps is deletion and downloading again. The scores are also retained here. Alternatively, as with previous Nintendo consoles and handhelds, there is of course the option of buying the game cartridges. A positive side effect: the games can usually be easily resold without any major loss of value.
Find out the friend code
Playing connects, even on the switch. So that you can race against each other in ” Mario Kart 8 Deluxe ” or engage in a colorful battle in ” Splatoon 2 “, you need friends. Nintendo has been using the friend codes that players exchange among themselves for years. Every Switch user who has linked a Nintendo Account receives their own friend code. But where do you find it? On the start screen, tap your user icon at the top. On the profile page, to the right of the avatar, you will see the friend code that begins with “SW”.
If your user profile is linked to a Nintendo Account, you will find your friend code for the Switch in your profile.
Pro controller: the right console feeling
With the dock, you can play your Switch games on the big screen like with the PlayStation 4 or Xbox One . But unlike the other consoles, you use the JoyCons on the Switch. However, this makes playing in front of the TV not that convenient. On the one hand, because you have two controllers and both are also quite small compared to a normal gamepad. The charging cradle ( around 25 euros on Amazon ), which turns both JoyCons into a controller, is a bit more convenient . But if you want a really handy gamepad like the other home consoles, you can get the Pro Controller for around 60 euros on Amazon. If it is too expensive for you, you can also find inexpensive alternatives from third-party manufacturers for around half the price. You connect all controllers wirelessly to the switch.
